Creativity: beneficial or destructive?

Updated: Jan 14, 2022

In How to Fly a Horse: the secret history of creation, invention, and discovery by Kevin Ashton, we learn about research that show that we say we value creativity. In reality and in the classroom, we actually value control. But we cannot control nature and our natural ability to create.

"Creating is an ordinary act, creation its extraordinary outcome."

Unleashing powerful forces in the world is exciting to watch, but often the unintended consequences show up and dampen the benefits... creating all kinds of chaos. What then do we do with our creativity?

"Our first creative step is unlikely to be good. Imagination needs iteration. New things do not flow finished into the world. Ideas that seen powerful in the privacy of our head teeter weakly when we set them on our desk. But every beginning is beautiful."

This is my beginning!
